City Building Buenos Aries

Another striking colonial building in downtown Buenos Aries. Shot with film on a very hot and bright cloudless morning. I’ve left it deliberately stark to accentuate the form and graceful lines of this beautiful building. I’ve rendered as a dark sepia to indicate a sense of the timewarp sensation I had while wandering the streets of this faded belle of a city.

thanks shaghaiwu. I don’t know what this building is used for or what its history is so I saw it simply as a bit of urban beauty all graceful lines and dark brooding interiors. The sort of image of a building that is a template for all colonial architecture. By stripping it of its actual personality I’m trying to make it speak for all the many beautiful old buildings in colonial outposts all over the world.

The striking lines work so well against the stark sky Juilee. Well done.

I love these kind of buildings. So resistant unlike the shoe-box type of towers you see cluttering everywhere. The Palace of the Central Post Office is amazing, same applies to the “Tribunales” (where the Supreme Court works) and all the surrounding buildings, the Palace of Aguas Argentinas (now “AySA”, it’s the huge orange castle in front of yet another deteriorated school; by the way that palace hides the water tanks and other devices related to the water supply… pure retro-tech), the “Pink House” (Casa Rosada) and many more.

Hi Abyssal…. this was opposite the pink palace on the other side of the square….. such beautiful architecute and so visually rich…. I would go back in a flash to BA…. fantastic place…..I just love buildings like this…. its like the city is in a time warp from not having had the money to build new shiny buildings but that is exactly what gave it so much charm…. and the recoleta…..oh my goodness what an amazing place….. loved it to bits..

Ah, I see, so then this has to be the city governor’s building (Gobierno de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, courtesy of Mr. Mauricio Macri…) Where there two old fashioned soldiers/guards at the entrance? (called “Granaderos”, which obviously means grenadiers but these carry rifles and swords, even more retro-tech, I like those guys)

The moment they switch guards is completely over the top.
