Urban Landscape # 24 Passing Train
This collection of Urban Landscapes is drawn from a larger body of work called Darkscapes. They are moody evocative invitations into mystery and imagination taken from the ordinary things that make up the fabric of city life. Beauty is all around us if only we take the time to notice it. We all look but maybe we don’t all see. This collection of images is a way for me to share what I see with others.
This was taken in a tunnel underneath St James Station in Sydney. Whoosh! how close was I to the train to get this shot hey.

Juilee Pryor
thanks Jase I just love speeding things even when its a train in a tunnel only about 2 metres away from where I’m standing. :)

Its a buzz I’ve been at st James station years ago, love that subway tunnel ! heading down to circular quay or key or however you spell it don’t remember LOL !
Juilee Pryor
yes Jase there are tunnel tours underneath the station that happen about once a month or so. Its a really buzz to do it. Oh and you spell it Quay but say it Key.

Wow! this is so good, well done Juilee
Juilee Pryor
Thanks Patricia and thanks Alistair. This train was going so fast you almost can’t make it out. But it really is a train in a tunnel. :)

It must have been a real adrenalin rush taking this shot!
Juilee Pryor
yes it was great!!! I love being in situations like this and also I was with my three teenaged sons at the time and was charged up with their excitement as well. What a buzz indeed. Must be nearly time to go back down the tunnels again to do some more shooting. I might have to suggest that to the Sydney group for an outing some time soon.

Tunnels are fabulous. We have a mob down here who find places to do projection and sound installation thingys. Bring headtorch chair and gumboots. Brilliant events. Only been to one and must get to more. Ya get used to the smell.
Juilee Pryor replied
hi ya Col… this was one fab expedition…. it didn’t smell but it was flooded in parts which really added to the whole experience…. I’d love to go back and do some more shooting but they don’t do it anymore… such a shame…. I’d love to go to one where they were doing projections and stuff… that would be way cool….. and thanks heaps for having a look at this…. you really can’t tell it’s a train at all … it was going so fast….. whoosh and it was gone… kind of scary but fabulous at the same time….. :)
Col Finnie
But it captures the effect on ya head of a train doing that and being, the reason its such a great shot for mine.
Roger, roger on it being fun down in the drain listening to what people were doing with instruments they’d made and amplified, sampled and feed back. Brilliant abstract movies projected inside a massive “room” in the drain. Was probably a hundred people down there. Must ask me friend how told us about the event what the name of the collaborative group was…Grunk or Krunk…something like that.
Juilee Pryor replied
hey Col…. if you find out what the name of the group that do the underground performances that would be great…. I’d love to check them out for sure… sounds wicked good fun…... :)
