Thanks everybody. I think maybe I should explain the look of the photo a bit more. Its taken with b/w film then solarized in the darkroom and then sepia toned and then allowed to seriously degrade. I’ve been know to line pictures up and drive the car over them not to mention using kitchen scourers etc. Then scanned and into photoshop for a bit more fiddling around and hey presto. In the portrait challenge no 2 the image is framed in a template which I made by painting out the negative with opaque red ink and then scanned so I was left with the film strip edges. Then I use it as a framing device on various images. Sometimes this one had that tempate and if you look through my portfolio there is a series called ‘After the flood’ which all have this same template applied to it. I have several different types of templates now which get put on different photos depending on the mood I’m in. I hope that helps a bit.

I’m a big user of alternative methods of image making using all types of analouge as well as digital imaging depending on the mood of the image I’m after. But all the images on my site have started life as negatives from film and then added to one way or the other. If I start to load digital picutures I’ll specify that that is what they are so its very clear. Not that I mind one way or the other but I have TONS of film work and as I’m sorting all that out thats what I’m uploading at the moment.

Thanks again for all the positive comments everybody, I just love to get some feedback especially as its been so much fun to participate in this portrait challenge :)

Wow, I didn’t know so much work went into them

  • Juilee Pryor

Juilee Pryor, about 1 year ago

Hey Dennis this is not really work. I love it beside artists don’t really have lives other than fiddling about with their pictures. Maybe I should get a hobby or a pet or maybe even a husband then I wouldn’t have to spend all my time being psyhco with my paintings and photo’s. :)

Thanks everybody. This is such an old image but I do love it and even with all the adobe filters in the world I don’t think I could get such a rich effect like this with out it going through the wet darkroom. Viva Analouge!

  • Juilee Pryor

Juilee Pryor in reply to Jake Kelly’s comment, 3 months ago

Hi Jake….. solarization can be tricky at times and is not an exact science and it also depends if your trying to do it in the analouge darkroom or using a photoshop filter…. this one is out of the darkroom…....

  • Jake Kelly

    Jake Kelly, 3 months ago

Ah ha. Mine would be in the dark room. Anyway, this gives me hope for what my solarized pictures could look like! Thanks for the inspiration!
