blue day... river of dreams river of tears
another infrared image from the vaults that has been gently coloured to give it the emotional tone it needs. I shot this image and the ones that follow in the days after my father died. They were all taken while I wandered along the river Torrens in Adelaide near where he lived. This particular stretch of the river is particularly beautiful and was a place he loved to go walking with his cameras. So then this image is about memory and loss and also about redemption through beauty.

Beautiful soft colour tones and texture, it really does look like a beautiful, peaceful place to take a stroll.
Juilee Pryor replied
thanks Jennifer… yes it’s like it’s just begging you to lie down in the soft dense vegetation and dream a while…. like Alice in Underland…. being able to walk along here was what kept me sane at the time and now it’s kind of how I remember those couple of days of really intensity…. all soft and blue

It speaks of all those things juilee – beautiful
Juilee Pryor replied
thanks Helene…. sometimes in memory it’s the colours and smells and things like that that serve as triggers later on down the track…. it’s over four years ago and only now can I find the distance I need to work through the photo’s I took at the time
Sticky Flower

:)
Juilee Pryor replied
thanks dinghy… funny thing about memory is that you just never know quite know when it’s going to strike or what will set it off…. but this little group of images is all about him…. bittersweet but still beautiful in their own way

Christine Wilson
that infrared shot translates so well with the colour treatment Julie, very dreamy i really love what you’ve done here
Juilee Pryor replied
hi Christine and thanks …. there is something really intangable about IR… film in particular that lets it channel emotion really well…. and the dreamy blue is just a match for my mood … when I found these negs… and remembered where they came from… it’s put me in a really nostalgic mood… thinking of my dad and all that…. but not in a miserable way…. really glad you like this shot…. :)

hello Tmac and thanks heaps… the tones and grain and general softness of IR film are really something special and one of the reasons I’ll be sticking with film … while I can get it that is anyway…. it just seems to make images like the out takes from dreams somehow…. really glad you like this…. :)
