Urban Landscape#29 Green Square Tunnel
This is a companion image to the Urban Landscape#28 taken underneath Green Square station a couple of years ago before the trains started to use the lines. Walking up these tracks was a truly amazing experience.

Lucky duck! – I would love to explore all the abandoned tunnels under Sydney…
Juilee Pryor, about 1 year ago
Hey Jordan, yes its pretty cool. The tunnel tours run I think about once a month or so and a group of maybe a dozen or so folks stroll around. Its not exactly glam or anything. Like don’t wear clothes you don’t mind throwing out or washing in really strong stuff. The tunnels are flooded in a lot of places and you have to wade through all sorts of ick and its dark so you have to take torches and what not. But I have three teenaged sons so its just the sort of cool thing to do with lads. And the pictures while difficult to get are so worth it. I must be about due for a re visit about sometime soon. Glad you like the pictures. You know what you’ll be doing next time your in the big smoke and guess what …..no tourists! Its mostly hard core locals that do these things.
cheers JP

Fantastic image Julie, gritty as hell, very Sci-Fi and suits monotone perfectly. Where is this ?
Juilee Pryor, about 1 year ago
This place is called Green Square station which is a few stops out of Central in Sydney very close to the Airport. Only don’t try and go there now as the trains are running and seriously it won’t be a lot of fun to stand in the middle of the tracks now. I was just very very lucky to be able to get to walk up the tracks with a camera and take a whole heap of frames before the real buiniess end of train station stuff started.
You can go and do a tunnel tour of abanded tunnels though. I think it runs about once a month. If people are interested maybe we could organise a RB tunnel tour. It would be nice to hook up with other bubblers for an outing such as this. What do you think?

You have a great portfolio.

Everything in this makes you want to walk further into the image. Love rail stuff anyway, but this is great. There are tours in London to abandoned lines also – and they really can be spooky.
Juilee Pryor, about 1 year ago
Thanks Graemes I am so glad people like this image. And I love going to unusual places and doing things that are a bit of the wall. Which these tunnel tours definiitly are!
Holly Werner, about 1 year ago
This is very cool. Not something you see often.
Juilee Pryor, about 1 year ago
Thanks Holly. Well your right on in your comment. This is a view that not many people see. I do realize that I was very lucky to be able to walk up this rail tunnel before the trains started to run. :)

Lovely Composition
armadillozenith, 4 months ago
Juilee, that’s neat!
I love tunnels and stations and big (or small) abandoned places…
there’s something about their contained busy-ness in transit; and the transitory-ness of places that have once been – or which will again be – busy.
This image captures that quality well…
A pregnant sense of time-and-space, people and potential meetings, things that could happen… and the silent empty(?)nesses in between, with a character of their own.
A sense of purposes abandoned, or yet to be formulated.
The composition of your image and its monochrome nature are also key to its appeal and evocativeness for me.
Thanks!!!
Graham
