muted landscape paired version
I’m preparing a new body of work for exhibiton later in the year and am working out ways to present these images. Yesterday I posted a single image muted landscpe #2 in order to invite some responses to the way I preparing the indivdual images with a very muted colouring and now today I’m posting a pair of images in a way that will replicate the way I want to present them. I’m thinking that I would do either three or four pairs of linked images individually framed but hung together in a series of pairs so that they will sort of look like this one…....
Each photograph will be printed at around 20×24 inches and then with the matting and framing I estimate each pair will need about 2 metres of wall space for hanging.
Let me know what you all think while I’m open to suggestions with this body of work and I’ll listen to all suggestions….... ta muchly in advance…...

Mel Brackstone
I missed yesterdays post, but just had a look now. I think the colours are awesome, and will look very handsome against the dark background. The paired version is very exciting too!
Juilee Pryor replied
hey thanks Mel….. it’s hard to present a series of work here and the pair above is meant to look like two individually framed images that have been hung together….. a bit of an imaginative leap to be honest but it helps me build a mental image before I get to the point of forking out all the bucks to make the work…...
I’m really glad you like the colouring of these as normally I’d just go straight black and white with landscapes like these….. thanks again….. preiciate it…...”)
Lawford
Hey Juilee,
If you opened the window before you took the shot you wouldn’t get that line down the middle.
Juilee Pryor replied
oh ha ha … your a dreadful wag…... I was standing in the middle of a place I think of as THE BIG VALLEY coz it’s so incredibly ginormous you can barely breathe there… all these shots were taken with a 2.4mm wide angle lens and it still takes about sixteen pivots to get the whole bowl of the hills in it….. any way cheers you ratbag…. you have made me laugh twice today now…....:)
Lawford
Good.
Juilee Pryor replied
good you good thing you…..:)
Bryan Davidson
This is really excellent Juilee. Just had a look at my watchlist and this was the only image in about 3 pages that grabbed my attention, and it’s still grabbing it.
Juilee Pryor replied
hey thanks Bryan….. I’m thinking that the actual framed images are going to look pretty striking somehow….. glad you like these shots…..:)
Juilee Pryor replied
and Bryan…. I really like your new avatar…. very cute…..:)
oliver berlin
gorgeous!
Juilee Pryor replied
why thank you muchly kind sir…...:)
Globalphotos
Beautiful work :)
Juilee Pryor replied
thanks Globalphoto’s…..:)
ltruskett
Love this method Juilee…....my favourite….......
Juilee Pryor replied
thanks Linda…. I quite like putting a little colour into these b/w images…. the more I reflect on them the more I think they are going to be OK somehow…. good to get some feedback here though…...:)
Sarah Bentvelzen
wow! this an absolutely amazing piece. love how you’ve put it together. great tones.
Juilee Pryor replied
Thanks Sarah… I’m still fooling about with it….it’s a couple of months out from the exhibition …. glad you like it…..:)
Jan Piller
Beautiful!!
Juilee Pryor replied
thanks Jan…..glad you like it…..:)
Patricia L. Ba...
The paired work is wonderful, but I’m a fan of this sort of image. It was such fun to study diptychs in art history. They have a long tradition going back to the middle ages.
Juilee Pryor replied
hi Pat… yes the diptych can be quite a powerful way to present something as huge as the landscape…. I think it’s going to work…. I may even do them bigger that 20×24 ….. glad you like this and can read its antecents…. :)
Jules Campbell
I enjoy the colours and how your planning to present them JP, its painterly and reminiscent of Tom Roberts ‘type’ era. I also like the uneven break in the two landscapes…the eye still connects them:)
Juilee Pryor replied
Thanks Jules…. and that uneven break… yes I contemplated that fully….. that’s the hook in the image somehow…. it’s not one photo printed in half but two seperate images sitting ever so slightly at odds with each other…like you say the brain fills in the line of the hills but some how also registers something that’s just not quite right…. and that adds to the mystery at the heart of the image….. any that’s my theory and I’m sticking to it…....:)
Shaina Lunde
Your work is wonderful! I love this!
Juilee Pryor replied
thanks heaps Shania…..:)
berndt2
Ooh! Cool concept and nicely done
Juilee Pryor replied
thanks berndt2…I’m still fooling around with different ways to present these…. it may all change again….but I like the paired images though… that could work well….... glad you like these funny landscapes….:)
Priscilla Rodr...
this is so nice i love it
Juilee Pryor replied
thanks very much Priscilla… glad you like it
Dave Hiskey
good pics..
Juilee Pryor replied
thanks davehiskey… glad you like it…..:)
Steven Sandner
Brilliant work!
Juilee Pryor replied
hi and thanks Steven… glad you like it…..:)
Rene Hales
I really like this. The muted colors are great and the diptych really works well.—Rene
Juilee Pryor replied
hi renehales…. thanks and the muted colour should look good against the dark walls…... glad you like it…..:)
butchart
i love the bit of dissonance between the paired images… the sky in the first one just turning pink in the far right pulls you over and then the disjointed hills throws a bit of majik in the mix… raises it to a new level of intrigue… i hope you keep the line of hills off kilter…....b
Juilee Pryor replied
thanks butch…. the images actually overlap a bit but I like having the opportunity to fake reality and all all done without the aid of photoshop…. well not a lot anyway… nothing I wouldn’t do in a wet darkroom….. glad you like these… I think they are going to work well….. :)
Nikki Trexel
this works very well as a divided image. love your coloring too.
Juilee Pryor replied
thanks Nikki I’m glad you like the divided image presentation….......:)
Miriam Dobson
reminds me of the cover of ‘the letting go’ by bonnie prince billy. this is a good thing :)
Juilee Pryor replied
hi Miriam… I’ll try and look that up…..and if that is a good thing then that will be a good thing indeed…...:)
dinghysailor1
yes all of the above – love the pairing presentation and gentle tones.. beautiful and I am sure they will look stunning in the exhibition!
Juilee Pryor replied
hhi dinghy… and thanks … I’m still considering how to actually present them to be honest…. not sure about the framing at all…. they may look better as really large prints that are suspended…. no frame at all….....we’ll see…....:)
Mike Finley
The presentation works really well :)
... but I’d be concerned that with each having a separate frame the two images would become more separated and less cohesive. Would it be too difficult to frame both in a single matte? (obviously not from redbubble!)
Juilee Pryor replied
thanks Mike I’m going to do a few of these pairs but am still considering all options for the final size of these and the framing… the walls at Parliment House where it’s to be hung are a dark wine colour and there are specific requirements for hanging works in the venue…. so I’m trying to develop a cohesive body of work that looks eyepopping within the limitations of the physical space.
steen
rejected….my foot… lol
Juilee Pryor replied
yes this was rejected by the Fine Art of Photography group…. no joke…...it doesn’t fit into their rules for work that can be considered to be a work of Art….. wankers…..
Juilee Pryor
just recieved this in an email from the curator of the exhibition at Parliment House…... seems not only does this appear to her to be an authentic work of art but owes as much to my skill as a painter as it does to my skill as camera operator…..
shame the experts here can’t see the artistic merit in the image….....
DesignbySolo
I like this very much
Juilee Pryor replied
thanks very much…..:)
carlein
stunning work, made it my favorite instantly!!!
Juilee Pryor replied
hi carlein….thanks heaps for your kind comments…. I’m thinking that this one is my favorite at the minute as well…....:)
MuscularTeeth
these are great JP.
Juilee Pryor replied
hello mr teeth….. and thanks this one is my fav so far….but there is one more I have yet to do….....:)
MuscularTeeth
looks great. wish i could see your “live” shows/ gallery events. id rock up all loud and brash and accidently spill cheese in places you wouldnt think possible without a physics lesson. I’d scare the customers away too with my random shouting. But i still would love to be there.
Juilee Pryor replied
ahh that is so nice….. this iexhibition is in a very nice location as well being just up from Circular Quay…..I’ve got eight metres of hanging space so I’ll get maybe two pairs in I think…. this one above and one that I haven’t done yet…...
MuscularTeeth
8 meters of blissfilled wonder i say.
Juilee Pryor replied
you say the nicest things sometimes…...:)
MuscularTeeth
and othertimes its such random prosethetic limbs you wonder what on hedges he is corfalerwabbling.
Juilee Pryor replied
there are times when I feel quite intimately aquainted with that selfsame hedge myself….....:)
aglaia b
you have definitely achieved the muted effect here juilee.
i reckon they look very beautiful and wonderful layout with the white boarders on black background. no suggestions here form me. except to leave as is! lol
great work. ;-) xox
Juilee Pryor replied
thanks agalia…. I’m really pleased that I have the opportunity to make the work and to be able to show it…..I think that they will look fine…..:)

Philip Rogan
Really digging these landscapes and your presentation of them. Also really dig (my hep word for today) the title, hep word “Muted”, I dig it Juilee!
Juilee Pryor replied
hi Philip and thanks…. they look so amazing in real life…. I printed them onto 325 gsm warm beige Fabrizoni watercolour paper then each pair went into a double cut mid grey matt and then a glossy black box frame…. they are 106 cms by 52 cms and there are four of them in total so they can be double hung….. they don’t really look like that much on the screen but it gives you an idea….. I’m very pleased with them and I’m really really hoping that they sell … now that really would cheer me up…...:)
Candyworld
Cool Shot
Juilee Pryor replied
hi Candyworld and thanks…..
kaya-ra edwards

Juilee Pryor replied

Jayca
I love it. I think this would be a great exhibition piece; it’s different and slightly unexpected, which is exactly what a show needs. :)
Juilee Pryor replied
hello Jayca and thanks…. it infact looks lovely as a finished bit of work…. and I don’t mind a bit of the unexpected….. it often works much better than the expected…...:)
Stephen Thomas
Beautiful pair of landscapes

thanks Stephen glad you like them….:)
spikeymikey
Love the way you have handled these landscapes – really like them – good stuff
Juilee Pryor replied
thanks heaps Michael….. they look so nice in real life…. :)
Chetan Raghuram
it looks great.. i think you should go ahed with it. one thing, i think the pictures should be alittle larger within the frame.
Juilee Pryor replied
Hi Chetan and thanks… I have made them in now and they are hanging in Parliment House …. and they look lovely…..the prints are A3 in size and theyare printed onto 325 gsm warm beige Fabrizoni watercolour paper then each pair went into a double cut mid grey matt and then a glossy black box frame…. they are 106 cms by 52 cms and there are four of them in total so they can be double hung…they look really special actually I’m really pleased to be honest…. I’ll be happier if they sell mind you…..the framing cost a bomb ….. anyway I’m glad you like these little landscapes…....:)
Chetan Raghuram
Parliament house? Thats awesome.. cool..i’m really happy for you.
Friederike Ale...
Stunning collage!!!
Juilee Pryor replied
hey thanks Friederike…. glad you like this
Geraldine Lefoe
Wow fantastic Julie hope they sell too – they would look awesome in print
Juilee Pryor replied
hi Geraldine… they ended up look just luscious…. the framing really set them off… they are on exhibition till the 19th December at Parliment House in Sydney…..and gee I’d be pleased if they sold too….. make a big difference to my state of mind at the moment… not that that’s got anything to do with the artworks themselve….....:)
Rosalie Dale IPA
There you go Juilee – featured!!! Congrats … and I also hope they sell for you.
Juilee Pryor replied
hi Rosalie…. has this been featured again…. I’m amazed… this mock up is just such a small indication of what the finished work looks like…. thanks for your kindness in commenting on this and pointing out that it’s been featured….. :)

Mel Brackstone
I’m really sorry I missed seeing these, Juilee, hopefully you’ve seen them by now?
Juilee Pryor replied
hi Mel…. yes finally I got into Parliment House and managed to have a little look at them…. today actually… and then went and took more photo’s of the big city buildings around there….. was nice actually…..:)
Mel Brackstone
And you’re happy with how they’re presenting, I hope?
Juilee Pryor replied
Hi Mel….well I’m happy with the work itself but it’s a problematic venue…. lighting is not wonderful ….. access is tricky and meh….. I’d have to think carefully about doing it in this venue again to be honest…. still I am glad I made the work and I’ll maybe post some images in the next couple of days…...:)
Mel Brackstone
have some words with the people who host :D
Look forward to seeing the view from your cam!
