Redfern Station 1982

Redfern Station 1982

this funny old photograph of Redfern station was shot out of the very grimy windows of a then derelict building that overlooks the station…... that building has long since been converted to very valuable bit of real estate but back then it was occupied by punks and pigeons ….... and this was their view…...

  • Juilee Pryor replied

hi dinghy…. yes the view out of the window is the only link between that time in 1982 and now….. the only constant…..

Another cool shot. Love the little bottles lined up against the window – I bet each one has it’s own story to tell.

  • Juilee Pryor replied

thanks Julie….. it was a time and a place and this debris of daily life just seemed to sum it up…...and yes there are stories from this time….. we all have our stories…...:)

Hard to believe that view would be prime real estate! Wonderful memories there, for those that still have brain cells…..hehe

  • Juilee Pryor replied

Hi Mel it’s hard to believe we survived those times….. so very different to now…..

Excellent perspective – you’ve really captured both a unique Time and Place

  • Juilee Pryor replied

Hi berndt2…. thanks and yes it was a unique time and place right before the first property boom that changed Sydney for ever…... then it was a much grittier depressed place with lots of vacant buildings in the centre of the city…. so lots of artists and bands and alternative types could rent or squat in whole floors in buildings that are now multi million dollar addresses….. very different time to now…...

aah half expecting to see a few spent rifle rounds… casings etc…

  • Juilee Pryor replied

hmm that’s an interesting perspective….. but this particular punk rock band were scary enough without needing sidearms and stuff…...

I love this shot! Its funny how places go from being almost slums to super expensive! What I love is the details inside the window… the empty bottles of grog, and the little bits and pieces… Love this shot… bit of Redfern history ey.. a good document of the place!
