antibellum - Grace
I’ve been a few blackandwhite Infrared photo’s of late and thought some colour might be nice. This image is also a B/W IR shot which I’ve scanned as an RGB tiff file and then just taken it from there in Photoshop. The last couple of series of work that I’ve posted I’ve done very little to in terms of post production which is because mostly I do all my tricky stuff in the camera …. or sometimes the darkroom….. yes I still hang out in dark rooms and I love the filmic magic that is available to those who still use film…....
anyway just because its a cold and windy sort of a Sunday and I’m indoors …....I thought I’d have a little play around with this shot….. this is a little bit experimental and I am not quite sure if it works as well with all these rich colours woven into the image but I’m trying to illustrate the idea of Grace and that is a state of being that is clearly not black and white….......

Juilee Pryor replied
thanks MtnMan….. it’s a bit experimental and it’s great to get some feed back on it….. it all helps….. :)

here it is again but spun around…. I can’t decide if I like it better this way or the other way….

What a lovely image Juilee, those tones and the treatment give it such a dreamy feeling. Personally, I like it the first way round, but either way it still looks great.
Juilee Pryor replied
thanks Chanel2…. thanks for the dreamy comment…. that is just the sort of effect I was going for…... I started out with the hands upside down but then decided to try it out right way up….... I kind of like them both and just can’t decide…..:)

Helene Kippert
Stunning juilee!
Juilee Pryor replied
hi Helene and thanks….. I’m actually quite pleased with how its turned out…. considering its a scan from a black and white negative…... :)
AndyGii
Using the IR has certainly given the photo a nice soft feel, right in keeping with the subject
Juilee Pryor replied
thanks Andy…. the models hands are in water as well so the IR does alsorts of interesting things with water as well…. but in this case it makes it a little more mysterious somehow…. really glad you like it…....:)

it’s cool when experimenting gives fruit. sublime outcome. I like the aspect as featured rather than POV
Juilee Pryor replied

POV – Point of View – ie the second image looking down from seemingly the eye of the photographer. I prefer the 180. That’s what I meant. :)

i think in the first one, you become the spectator, looking in on someone else’s ritual…but spun around, you become the spectacle…hmmm…food for thought.
I think i like the first one more for this reason…i feel like i’m witnessing a ritual, but i don’t really understand what the ritual is, and that’s ok. with the bottom image my ignorance is highlighted (and i don’t like that!!!)
anyway…it’s a beautiful image either way around. (hehe- maybe try 90 degrees!)
Juilee Pryor replied
thanks leeceemee I’ve used this particular image before to make a work and the hands were from my POV so the second one….... that worked really well then but now .... I prefer the aspect that I posted….... funny how you can change so much over time in how you see your work…...

I love the glow that only IR can produce. Beautiful work, and I think I prefer this first one.
Juilee Pryor replied
