Landscape for Orson Wells # 1: Wedge

Just lately I’ve been having a nice time posting all sorts of random things for all sorts of distracted reasons and thats been lots of fun. But time to run another series across the screens of bubbleland…..and that can only mean Infrared images are coming up. I love the dark and mysterious light that can be inticed into being with B/W infrared film…. and yes all my IR work is done the old fashioned way with film….. Kodak High Speed Infrared film to be exact.

This particular series was shot in Sydney some years ago at the old Reschs site on Lachlan Street as it was being demolished to make way for a new housing development in the inner city. I was fascinated with the destruction of all the old buildings and how the hidden backs of structures of were revealed by the rolling waves of demolition. This urban landscape of ruined reality and brand new dreams set in the piles of rubble took on a profoundly mysterious atmosphere and became a landscape setting suitable for colonization by the imagination…...hence the title of the series…..Landscape for Orson Wells….. this one is the first and its the very corner of a building that no longer exists…. except in this photo…..... so it can now be a building anywere you fancy it to be and it can signify any thing that you the viewer would like it to mean…....

your search for light never stops to fascinate me….
maybe your fascination for IR is because you see the light others can’t see…

  • Juilee Pryor replied

thanks Bjorn…... yes sometimes I think I want to see what’s behind the light… what can’t be seen…. only felt….. that is really what I want to do with the IR shots I do …try and understand the light a little better….. thanks heaps for your wonderful comment…...

There’s definitely something about this image : it’s like some massive concrete and steel ocean liner ploughing through above the viewer. Very cool

OMFG!!! This is so damn cool! Reminds me of the end-of-the-world dreams I have. No no! That’s a GOOD thing! I love my end-of-the-world dreams… they are so full of darkness and drama, like this image… all the right ingredients for the birth of a hero.

    Love this Juilee!

    Christine Wilson

love the feeling of this series of shots very dramatic almost alien

  • Juilee Pryor replied

hi Christine and thanks heaps… for taking the time to really look at a whole series of work….. and yes the IR film and a wide angle lens and my own peculiar perspective make this otherwise mundane demolision scence something else…. really really glad to find you have taken the time to view these…. I really like this set of images and am really glad that you do too…....:)
