This little hummingbird is as curious about me as I am of him. In this photo, taken in my front yard, he seems to be waving at me. Taken with Canon SD1400 IS program mode w/flash ISO 400. I was about 2 feet away from the bird when I snapped this shot. I spied him as I was getting out of my car, and I was glad to have my camera close at hand. I did not crop this shot.

A very sweet capture! Hummers are very curious. They used to perch on the lattice in my parents’ driveway. They would come right up to the kitchen door (all glass) and look in. They’d watch my mom cooking and my dad sitting at the table talking. It was like they were a part of the family, and they liked it too. You can put something out for them too, and they will befriend you even more, letting you know too, when the feeder is empty.

Thank you! I have had humming bird feeders filled with sugar water and they became very domineering and chased all other birds away from their feeders. Ants always found their way to the feeders, too. They did not get chased away, I wish they would have been. Luckily I have aloe vera, the red bud and other colorful flowers, something blooming all year which gives them a more natural high….
