Post Hurricane Rita, 2005
One Week After Hurricane Rita.
near Bahia Honda, Florida.
26 September 2005.
This is one of several Hurricane and Tropical Storm photos I’m uploading to RedBubble. These photos aren’t necessarily recommended for purchase—they’re more like “scraps” that I’m going to purchase for myself.
This photograph isn’t actually of Hurricane Rita. The last Big Bang of 2005 had passed near the Florida Keys the week before and on this day was dissipating along the northern rim of the Gulf of Mexico. Still, we’d hit the Keys as the storm was clearing the Keys and experienced a brilliant cycle of clear skies turning stormy, then back to clear. Back and forth, back and forth. It was quite spectacular and a fine reminder of the volatile nature of the northern Caribbean in September.

This has a cool atmosphere to it, I could only imagine that it would seem quite scary to encounter a hurricane. Especially since Katrina, which the USA seems to not treat lightly anymore.
Nice photo.

Great composition and you really get the feel of the strength of the hurricane.

Thanks, ya’ll. It was a cool post-hurricane wave of turbulence. Can’t help but to miss them a bit… now that I’m in Alaska. Odd.
- Janson, with thanks!
