Moose.

Winter must be a few months away, as the moose are beginning to return to our little corner of Anchorage. Being a recent immigrant from Florida and considering that I’ve only lived in Alaska for one year, it’s little surprise that I still find myself in awe of these magnificent animals each and every time they wander through our neighborhood.
This relatively young moose was snacking up a storm in the backyard of the empty house next door to us. The unmaintained property is absolutely overgrown—and this, it seems, is a good thing for the moose. Lots of good eats!

Hey there! I do believe this was a female, though I admit I wasn’t looking too closely. Still, at that size, if it were a male there should be some rack action on the head, I would think. And I didn’t notice, uh, anything else… that would signify bull moose!
Thanks for checking out the blog. We just started from scratch and are having a good time reinventing it.
