AFTER READING PORTRAIT OF THE ARTIST AS A YOUNG MAN

One after another
They all become shadows
Passing others on the way
Meeting ourselves in their
Disparity
The loneliness evokes
A resonant fear
Inherent in the moves
Ever so slight
The nimble fingers
Working their method
In the hardened
Days
Like chess the game of
Ingenuity
You are your last move,
Theory and then
Observation
Unsequential life comes
From distractions and being
Afar
To unleash and discover the life
In one’s soul
Famished for reality
Is to read and then write
Of the day’s conclusion
Indecisive
Abound in the youth’s reflection
In the ebbing waters
To see those who become yourself
Unrecognizable
As one in the movement of time
Accepting the role
born
of one’s own cause

AFTER READING PORTRAIT OF THE ARTIST AS A YOUNG MAN by

Fascinating work from years ago. It reflects in all our lives as artists to feel, experience and mature in the objects that make up our world so that an artists must set apart him or herself to be truly objectional and paint, write, create that which he/she sees in abstract terms rather than in the reality itself. Must a true artist seek and accept, isolation, loneliness and emotional upheaval to fully feel the pangs of an object, an event, a life? Or is an artist a product of their unmanufactured life composed richly of such adversity and diversity?

Born in 1943 in Saratoga Springs, New York, Simone survived both the stinging winters of this small Adirondack mountain town and the absence of any grand opportunities.
In the mid 2000’s and most recently, Simone has turned to paying “homage” to the old master artists, especially Johannes Vermeer, by creating a body of work that pays tribute to this master’s skills of light, position, balance, color and theme.

Brilliant….if you were able to get through it unscathed, you have indeed achieved something…..

  • Thank you Janis. Deeply appreciate your comments. Joyce was a master of depicting us in the art world. for he himself succumbed to its follies
