This cicada has just crawled out of the ground, and up this tree to climb out of his skin. Here he is sitting on top of his old skin and letting his wings straighten out before he can fly away.
Taken with a Nikkormat FTn on Tri-X. The 50mm f/2 lens was on extension tubes. Taken at night (thats when they do this) lit by a hand held off camera flash. This is a colorized version of the scanned Tri-X negative. I have another similar picture in full color.

  • Thanks so much for the comment, and for the Fav too! It was actually a pretty difficult shot to get – quite close up, manual exposure, manual focus, on the side of a pine tree, in the Dark! Of course I did have a little help, and the bug wasn’t going anywhere, so that made it easier.
