What a Wonderful World

You wonder why I see the sky always grey and not blue
If only you could see the ways of the world as I do
No one really wants to feed the hungry or help the poor
Life means nothing to the youth and to take one makes them hardcore
I’ve seen cold, lifeless bodies lying bloody in the rain
And beautiful little children abused by their parents in great pain
A hopeless broken man with nothing left but memories of a life
Because a disturbed, sadistic felon chose to rape and murder his wife
I run towards the gunshots with my bullet proof vest strapped on tight
I fight what you fear to keep the streets safe for you at night
But while I’m busy being a Hero, therapist and freind to all
I can’t afford to pay my bills on time because my paycheck is too small
Politicians don’t care about us or the hungry mouths we have to feed
As long as crime in the city is down that’s the only thing they need
So I strap on my vest and fight crime again for you
Because I have a family of my own and It’s what I need to do
What a wonderful world we live in where men and women will risk their lives
To protect our citizens and keep them safe no matter how small the prize

What a Wonderful World

A very touching poem and sadly true.

Last week 4 people were killed in this city, 2 mothers and 2 babies. We had 80 high ranking officers in the city to catch these guys who actually had the nerve to walk into a home and shoot a mother holding a 4 month old then shoot the other mother holding a baby shy of 2 years. While they searched this city high and low for these guys I did appreciate what they do. I did hope they’d find them but never did I stop to think about their families. I just wanted the other guys off the street. Thank you for reminding me to pause and consider the cost of going after such low lives.
