This barred owl was seen at circle b bar reserve,Lakeland,Florida ,USA which remains natural florida as it always was and is the closest i get to being back in Africa. These owl are fairly commonly seen but difficult to photograph as they like deep oak woods and cypress swamps with little photo light. There was transient intermittent light with some patience was able to get some satisfactory shots.

You were so lucky to be able to get such a wonderful shot of it!! Like he posed for you!

  • Thanks,Ciana, but it did take patience because when first seen he was completely in the dark and had to wait for the sun to reflect in and for him to move a little :)

When i go on an owl shoot, i have to be ready to do some fast tromping!! I follow their calls, pinpoint the right tree, and then they takeoff elsewhere! Once one actually touched down on the ground not far from me. Startled me so much, i don’t think i got a good shot. This is excellent…I am so glad you got some transient lighting. Great job!

  • Thanks so much for the kind comments,Randi,i have been to circle b many times and these owls are around the same vicinity ,but the time of day and the ligting is always a challenge with owls in the wild, but i got lucky this time but needed patience as always :)
