Cutting, twisting, turning, dissecting
Your knife-like words render me down into shreds
Deeper and near fatal
They slice me to ribbons
Opening old wounds and scars where they bled
Sharper than razor blades, keenly you place those words
Where they will do the most damage to me
Stripping away the shell
Built up protectively
Opening me up, all my tenderness to see
Pinpoint accuracy, straight to the heart of me
No defences left to shield me from pain
Triumphantly stand over me
Watching your handiwork
Opening my being to hurt once again.
"You shower me with words made of knives"
I had the radio on this morning and a song by Adele called ‘Cold Shoulder’ came on – and one of the lines in the song is
“You shower me with words made of knives”.
This really stuck in my head all day and I wrote the above to exorcise it!!

All water under the bridge now though, and I definitely do not have that problem anymore :)
