FRIED EGGS
This little painting was done with Oil Pastels, a medium I have come to love recently! I used sanded pastel paper as my surface. These eggs are still somewhat raw which gave me some more interesting colours to work with.

I pulled this up thinking there must be some story with Joyce taking a photo of a couple of eggs, then of course when I realized I was looking at an oil pastel I was truly amazed. Great work of art. There an US southern expression, “Now yer cook’n with oil,” meaning you’re on the right track. Somehow that seems to be an appropriate expression to use for this work.
Joyce
Thanks so much, Jim! I’ve actually heard that expression before….Guess we northerners are prone to picking up nifty sayings from our southern neighbours…...they can say things in a way that “hits the nail on the head”! :)
I sure do appreciate your encouraging comments!

I signed out, but had to sign back in to comment on this – really well done Joyce (well, the eggs aren’t but the work is!!!) Could you please add it to the group Contemporary Pastel Painters? Oil pastels are welcome. So excited to see a pastel on the home page! Well deserved!
Alice McMahon ...
btw – what is the size here? I love sanded paper, but I always use soft pastel. I might have to try the oil variety.
Joyce replied
Thanks so much for your kind comments Alice! The size of this painting is a mere 4” by 6”. I can’t say enough about Oil Pastels! I always used to use the soft ones, but the Oils are the perfect cross between drawing and painting. I now use Colorfix Paper for them and it will take much abuse and many layers since it’s surface is also slightly sanded. I’ll be very happy to add this to the Pastel Painters group! Thanks!

Thanks for the helpful info Joyce. I really struggle with oil paints, but love the idea of them. Perhaps the oil pastels will be a good transitional medium. So glad to have your lovely works in the group!
