Golden Hope
The memorial is located near the Brandenburg Gate. It was built between 2003 and 2005 according to a design by architect Peter Eisenman. This design represents a radical approach to the traditional concept of a memorial, partly because he does not use any symbolism. The grid pattern, consisting of 2711 concrete stelae, which can be walked through from all sides, leaves it up to the visitors to find their own way in and out of the complex.

Yes. Sends shivers down my spine. This is an amazing image also especially when you know what it represents. I was there when it was being built and heard of some of the controversy surrounding its concept and location. Very strong image love the sky.

I must confess to having a range of strong emotions the few times I’ve been there.
On one of the quieter moments I’d spent there, a line of tourists unloaded from their coaches and streamed into the monument. They all disappeared into the blocks and I never saw them again! I cried and realised one of the elements of the design and concept.
The visitors’ centre is in the basement, that’s why.
