This is Ashna aged 5 years old. Ashna lives in a Indian gypsy camp, just outside Chennai, Tamil Nadu State, South India. I will never forget her warmth and beautiful smile, as I spend several days in the Gypsy camp.

Gypsies are Low Cast and known and treated as untouchables. They are often denied Medical care, schooling, and are not allowed to own land.

The River is just behind the camp, yet they are forbidden to fish it, as they are charged very high rates from the Indian fisheries, and they cannot afford it. Their only source of income is Making beads and necklaces, plus laborings for the farmers for less than a Dollar per day.

They need cloths, materials to build shelter, a School, Mosquito nets and All the children need Multi vitamins. All children are Malnourished and under developed. Chased from almost everywhere they go. The only place the can truly call their own is the small Church and the help they receive from a small under-funded Christian Ministry called New Life Indian Gypsy Mission.

They also run an orphanage. I and Philadelphia Mission are currently seeking Yours Prayers and donations so we can help these precious children.

  • This is indeed a great honour to me to have any of my portrait works featured in British Portrait Artists Group. Now its featured among many wonderful and very talented artists. Almost all my portraits are taken while in open air and the Children are seldom still. I love Natural light and prefer to catch them as natural as possible. My love and passion for Mission work in Africa and India among the rural and often remote villages, opens a wonderful door or opportunity to catch their sadness, and beauty on Camera. Thank you James for this feature. I really do Appreciate this very much.http://www.philadelphiamission.org/“:http://www.philadelphiamission.org/
