My name is Evangelist Trevor Irwin, and I am a missionary. Due to many requests I have decided to share with all who are members of Red Bubble my personal Testimony. I will try and keep it brief so here goes.

I was born in Northern Ireland in 1958. I lived through what is commonly known as “the troubles”. Shootings, Bombings and the loss of many friends and Family members. I was in and out of Children’s homes and foster homes until I was adopted by my grandmother aged 11 years old. We lived in the countryside, and after school I would work on the neighbouring farms.

I had my first Cigarette when I was 12 years old. I remember turning almost green and I was sick. My boss laughed and thought it was hilarious. It was at this time I also had my first bottle of beer.

Little did I Know then that this was to have a devastating effect on the rest of my life. I began to drink every weekend and by 15 years old I was drinking every weekend. I would get the bus outside my grandmother’s cottage every Saturday morning at 11am and head to Dungannon, my local town. I looked older than 15 years old, and it was easy to get alcohol. I would drink Beer and Vodka and Coke.

It became a way of life for me. I would start fights and got into fights with the Police. I started driving cars without a Licence or indeed any legal document. By 22 years old I was known by most as a trouble maker. I held down several Jobs, but all my money went on Alcohol, Drugs and foolishness. I started to become addicted to Poker machines, and would gamble and loose much. It became a battlefield in my mind. I would be tormented on should I risk another £20.00 on the Machines or just cut my losses and drink.

Many evenings I would have no money left for a bus or taxi. I would walk the 9 miles home and wake up the next morning with a pocket full of pennies and see scars and cuts on my face and hands, which were caused by falling on the road and into hedges.

I would always promise my grandmother that that was the last drink I would ever take. Yet the next day I was back at the Bar doing the same thing.
My Grandmother was a deep loving Woman who had a beautiful relationship with Jesus. Many times she would hold my hand as we sat in front of the big open fireplace and pray for me. I would pay also, that God would change my life.

When i was 24 years old I read an advertisement in a Magazine. It was that Advert that led me to write for information about spells and witchcraft. I received a lot of information from “The Sorcerers Apprentice” in England. I purchased manuals and material and started to learn the art of witchcraft. At one point my spirit would leave my body and I could travel outside my body into people’s homes. I would hear their conversations and see what they were doing. I wickedly used this to my selfish advantage. I on one occasion pointed to a bird in the sky, and using the arts I had learned command it to come to my hand.

But all this brought me even more hurt and misery. I could not stop drinking and would drink at home, as well as in the bars. I then leaned more spells and chants, and used these powers when gambling. It yielded many wins for some time, but all I did with the money was to gamble more and drink myself into oblivion. Soon the spells and chants stopped working, and The Devil would torment me with thoughts of Suicide.

I was a wrack. I would smell of urine as I lost control of my bladder, and I would pass blood as well. I took a large dose of drugs and instead of dying I ended up in Hospital. From there I was admitted into a mental Hospital. I spent three months, getting electric shock treatment.
[Please be patient readers, because it’s not all gloom]

The Beginning of the Change.

It was late November and I had lost a lot of my drinking money on the gambling machines. So I sold my expensive motorcycle to the bar owner for 30% of its true value, just to have enough money to continue my drinking and gambling over the weekend.

I was so angry inside that i had done such a foolish thing. I swore that I would never be so stupid again. Now I had to walk everywhere again or depend on a lift or bus.

It was just after 1am on Sunday morning and I had started to walk about 4 miles of the 9 mile journey home. It was raining hard and very cold. I staggered along on the dark road, and fell several times. I would get up swearing and cursing. Then I stood in the middle of the road, and felt warm trickles flow down my face. It was Blood. My face was so cold from the freezing rain, that the Blood was so warm.
I remember very clearly Screaming to God “God if you are real, Kill me now, because Hell cannot be any worse that what I am living”.

I am Glad he did not kill me, as I would have died in sin and gone straight to a Christless eternity.

A few days after this my grandmother passed away in hospital. Her Last words to me were these. “Son, Please Give your life over to God and allow him to make something from it; Go to England and make a new start”. She then closed her eyes and slipped away into the arms of Jesus.

After the funeral, I sold all that was in the house and went to London. This was in 1986. I arrived in London not knowing anyone. I had a fair amount of money, and God a bed-sit in Ilford. But soon the drinking started again and I was as bad as ever. I lost the bed-sit, as I was drinking the money instead of paying the rent. In Just three months of arriving in London, I was sleeping in the Graveyard of ST Mary’s Church. Day after day I would beg for money. I was unwashed and became very ill. I do not remember how I ended up in London City Hospital, but I woke up in a room, with tubes, drips and nurses working on my body. I was very ill and went into a coma for 9 days. Then The Doctor came to me and sat by my side. I was not interested in what he was going to say. All my thoughts were consumed with getting out and getting money for a bottle of Vodka.

Then he gently informed me that I was in hospital now for 10 days. This confused me, as my last memories were of sitting behind a shop wall.
He went on to say that they had done some tests and the results were not good. He told me that I had Ceros sis of the liver. He said that my liver was failing as it was full of holes. I sure started to listen to him then. He informed me that I must never take even one sip of alcohol again, as it was alcohol that started all this.

I asked him will I get better if I stopped drinking, ad he said No, as the damage was severe. He explained that the liver can regenerate itself, but in my case it was to much damaged. I asked him am I going to die and when. He was silent for what seemed along time and the nurse help my hand. Again I asked him how long I have got to live. He said he was not God and could not say how long, but that I must stop drinking now… I was angry and said a year 2 years, 1 year or 6 months, how long do you think I might have. He said about 6 months, maybe a little longer. The following day I created a row and wanted out, so I argued so much, that they allowed me to sign a paper.

It was not long that I was back begging passers bye, and was drinking again. I met a drinking buddy early in the morning, and I told him what had happened. We used to buy each other drink and share what we had with each other, when one of us had none.

God Intervenes

Late in the evening we parted company and I was walking around the streets looking for a quiet place to sleep. As I was walking down Francis Street, Stratford, London. I heard people singing inside. This made me stop and as I listened, I heard in my head, my grandmothers dying words, “Son Give your life to Jesus”. I picked up the courage and walked into that little Pentecostal Church. I thought that at least I would be able to stay in the warmth for a few hours. The worst would be that I would be chased out.

Instead I was greeted by a little old lady called Diane, and taken to a small kitchen which was near the door. She showed so much concern and Love just emanated from her every word. As she made me some coffee and a sandwich, I could hear the preacher, an old Yorkshire man called Rev Eric Butterworth Preach. His key text was,
Psalms 39:12-13 Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were. O spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go hence, and be no more.
He asked all ion the congregation, are you a stranger to God?. Is your heart broken adn your eyes filled with tears from trials and painful wounds?.
he went on to explain the new birth.

He said that “If any man was in Christ, he was a new creature, Old things were passed away, and all things become new”. [2 Corinthians 5:17].

He went on to explain that God was a God of second chances, a and if anyone came to him, he would was away their sins and remember them no more. He also said that once a man gives his life to Jesus, that Jesus would give him a brand new life. Chains that bind would be broken and the Burdens would all be gone. All the time he was preaching the words were going deep into me. Diane the lady who made me coffee just sat silent and occasionally smiled.

God Speaks To me directly.

Then I Heard the Lord Jesus say to me “My son, your almost home, Come now and give me your broken life and I will give you a life free from the things that broke you”. I actually heard Jesus, as if he was sitting where Diane was sitting. I was neither afraid nor confused at this. I found myself standing up from the table and walking out towards the Pulpit. I remember I was crying and I said to the Preacher, “I just Heard Jesus Speak to me sir”.

Some people said Glory and others started praising God. The Preacher came down from the Pulpit and stood before me. His first words to me were a Question. “What did Jesus say to you Friend”?

I told him Jesus said “he wants my broken life and he will give me a new one”. He smiled and put both his soft hands on my face and said, yes son that was Jesus alright. That Night right there is standing in front of a crowd in that little Pentecostal Church I received Jesus into my heart. I remember repeating words after the pastor, but then I started to talk to Jesus myself. I felt a warm glow cover my whole body, and I could hear Chains actually falling to the ground.

My whole body was burning with Gods Glory, and I began to experience Love enter my soul. It was as if a great heavy burden I was carrying a long time was gently lifted of me. I started to Thank Jesus and by now I did not care what these people thought of me. Something took place that I did not fully understand at that moment, but I knew Jesus had set me free from being a drunk, a gambler and witchcraft, and I was someone totally different inside.

This was not emotion or imagination. I was experiencing what I know now as the greatest miracle ever, “Being born again”. In 1986 Jesus Spoke words that changed my life.

A new Man, – New Life.

Pastor Eric Run a Hostel for broken men and woman. I was taken back there that night. I was in a place where for the first time in my life I was a free man. Three weeks later I received Baptism in the Holy Ghost.
Act 19:2 he said to them, have you received the Holy Spirit since you believed? And they said to him, we did not so much as hear whether the Holy Spirit is.
:3 And he said to them, Then to what were you baptized? And they said, To John’s baptism.
:4 And Paul said, John truly baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe into Him coming after him, that is, into Jesus Christ.
:5 And hearing, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
:6 And as Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.

Since then Readers I have never had a single drink of Alcohol, Never Smoked, And Never turned to witchcraft again.

God truly has given me a new life. I met my wife in that same Church. I have a wonderful family. I serve God here In London and as a Missionary in Nigeria-Uganda and South India. I have been anointed with Power to Preach, Teach, Heal the Sick, Win souls and set others free. InSouth India, God raised a dead boy to life when he told me to command life to return to him.

God sends and Angel.

God sent an angel to give me Money while in Uganda. I had not enough to pay my Hotel Bill, as the vehicle broke down that was to come and pick me up. I stayed over weekend, but could not afford to pay the extra two nights. I simply Spoke and Said “Lord All my needs are already met. You are my Provider”. The Monday Morning the vehicle turned up. As I was standing at the desk, the manager was writing out the bill. A Little old white lady with snow white hair put her hand on my shoulder from behind. As I turned to see who it was, she asked me a question. “Are you a Man of God? I replied yes I am. She took my right hand and said “The Lord says you have need of this”. And I felt what I knew was money into my hand.

At that Time the manager handed me the Bill $302.00. I handed him 4 $ 100.00 bills and turned to thank the old lady and she was not there. I asked the manager who was facing in the direction the lady was standing, and asked him if he saw where the lady went to. He looked confused and said what lady? I explained to him the old white lady with snow white hair. He said there was no lady. Again I said to him, you must have heard her speak to me. He laughed and said it was too early in the morning to be making jokes. Then I knew, that Lady was a Divine Messenger from God, He sent an Angel.

Please readers, this is not fairytale or made up story. What God has done in my life, he has done for countless people. He can and will do for you. First Give your Heart to Him.

He does not want your Money, your House, or indeed anything, just you to believe in him. I could not buy the freedom and happiness that God has given me. It’s free to anyone who will listen to him.

If you have tried and failed, it does not matter to God. He is right by your side now, waiting for you to talk with him. Ask him to forgive your sins and come into your heart today. He will!

(Joh 10:9) I am the door. If anyone enters in by me, he shall be saved and shall go in and out and find pasture.
(Joh 10:10) The thief does not come except to steal and to kill and to destroy. I have come so that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
(Act 2:21) And it shall be that everyone who shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

2Corinthians5:17 Therefore, if any man be in CHRIST, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, ALL things are become new.

This scripture came to my mind while reading your testimony BEFORE I got to the section where you wrote it. GLORY to GOD for such an awesome & powerful life changing testimony. It takes more POWER in life to recognize one’s problems, faults, mistakes,
(living outside of the Will & Purpose of GOD) and SUBMIT yourself to a GOD not readily visible to most, WHO will and can change your life forever! It is far too easy to stay the way you are and be satisfied with staying in that position although it may be ruining your life. You were a man consumed by addiction who had little, if any at all, concern for your self or welfare. GOD is more REAL to me than this keyboard I am using to type. THANK you so much for sharing, encouraging and possibly being able to help through the Spirit of GOD to alter the destiny of someone else who may be in a bottomless spiral to an eternal hell. Too often our testimonies are viewed as attempts to convert others. In actuality, they are intimate detailed revelations of what GOD is doing or has done in our lives. We merely show that HE is working and doing ALL that HE says HE can or will do. The bottom line for anyone is that whatever you have or use, you WANT it to WORK for you. Thank you again Brother Trevor : ) I PRAISE GOD !

What an inspiration story and testiment of such a powerful and loving God!
I do have one question for you…
I am a christian, growing daily in Christ and I have had a question on my mind for a while now. I was wondering if you could help?
Indeed, Act 2:21 says “and it shall be that everyone who shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
The thing is, in matthew 7: 21, it says ” Not everyone who calls out to me Lord! Lord! will enter the Kingdom of Heaven.”
I know it goes on to say only those who do the will of the fatherwill enter, butI’m not sure.
I’m not in any way doubting, just seeking answers. =]
    Thank you and God Bless.
You sound like an incredible man.
    Again, God Bless,
    Megan

  • TREVOR IRWIN replied

Greetings Sister Megan. I am so sorry its been many months now in replying to your question.
We need to read all of Acts Ch 2, and note the events that took place before we can fully understand Why Peter said in Acts 2:21 ” and it shall be that everyone who shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved”.
After the Holy ghost filled those in the upper room, there Many who are amazed that they could hear these man speak not in their native language, but in the language of people from different countries that spoke in a different language to them. Acts 2:9-10 tells us where they came from.
Now look at Acts 2:13 “Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.”
Peter reminded them that what they saw and heard was prophesied by the prophet Joel.
He reminded them that God will pour out his spirit [upon all Flesh].
he was addressing the mockers and sceptics Personally and directly, So when in Acts 2:21 “and it shall be that everyone who shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Peter was saying God will save people from all over the world, no matter what tribe, colour, or nation they were born in. they that call upon the Lord was a direct answer to the mockers and true statement, that God will save all who call on him, not just the Jews, medes Persians or Samaritans. If anyone, no matter who they are will call on Jesus , they will be saved.
Paul Say the same: Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
What is it to actually call on the name of Jesus?.
Lets focus on the word Call. What does it mean to Call on the lord? is it just enough to call his name, or is there requirements to how we call him?
When we call someone name and they hear us, you get their attention. That person knows you may want to say something, or ask them to do something, or ask a question ect.
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
We see here that there is a requirement to coming to God. first the person calling/praying must believe that he is, who he says he is. this certainly eliminates all non believers and those who just call his name in anger or when they are faced with danger or in fear. Before one can call Jesus name in a way that Jesus will hear, respond and save, One must have Faith, Believe, agree and trust that Jesus is who he says he is and that they are sinners in need of saving from eternal judgement.
There are those who do not Trust, Believe or depend on Jesus. Yet when they attend a Funeral, Christening or wedding, they sing Jesus name, Speak it from a hymn book, or in some other way. Some will say in conversation Jesus save us, they are not saved, nor will be, unless they first believe he is Gods son, Acknowledge they are sinners, Believe he died and paid the price so they can be pardoned, and then ask him to personally forgive them and come into their heart and life. Even if one has attended Church and went through all the religious programs and events. Unless you are born again, that is to ask Jesus to personally come into your heart , you are not saved.
If anyone reading this feels I am so wrong in what I say, then read what Jesus says.
Matthew 7: 21, ” Not everyone who calls out to me Lord! Lord! will enter the Kingdom of Heaven.”. We have read in Hebrews 11:6 We read that one must have faith and believe in Jesus, and also believe he will forgive them and come into their hearts. This call from such a person will move Jesus to grant them forgiveness and he will make his abode in them.
Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?.
Note what Jesus is saying here and to whom he is saying it too.
He is speaking to those who Call on him, who profess to Know him, yet they do not live by what he teaches. We know he is speaking to believers. Because one must have a relationship with Jesus and have knowledge of him and his word, before you can know and apply what he says and teaches. He is speaking here to his Children. Those who know, rely, trust and depend on him. They Call his name in prayer, Sing unto him and praise him. Jesus asks a question to All his Children. Why do you call me Lord, and then don’t do what I say?
Jesus puts great importance on Obedience and submission to his word and spirit.
John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. Again he said these words. John 14:23 Jesus said If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
He asks the question in Luke 6:46 and why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? Here in John 14:15 & 23 he sets the standard.
There are those who love him, yet do not do what he says. They live their life their way. Dressing in a manner that causes others to lust,. Speak in a way that grieves our lord. I could go on. He says such Children of His is like a house build on sand. The trials of life come and they cannot stand.
John 14:23. If anyone loves me, they will keep my words and live by them.
To Call on the name of the Lord Means much more than to just Call his name. We must have faith, believe and follow on to know him.
I seem to have gone all over the place with a simple answer. I pray it will help you and those who read it to understand that there is a certain call, cry that Jesus answers immediately. This Call comes from the heart of one who believes Jesus Died for them, and that he really did pay the price for their sins. The Moment that person believes this, Jesus heart is open and he will come in and make his abode in them. There is a condition to the call. One must have the right attitude and hungry heart.
The Lord Bless you and continue to lead you into all his joys and blessings.

I find no words to express the joy or the wonder of God’s Magnificent Mercy and Grace bestowed upon mankind. With tears flowing from the river of life within I am thankful and reminded once again how much Love becomes real to the one that accepts the gift of life from our Heavenly Father. Once again I experience true humbleness and gratitude for the One that calls us “His Own”. Trevor, what a wonderful testimony that touches the soul of man, brings conviction to the heart, opens blind eyes, and iginites desire within to reach higher than mediocrity. As Job, all of the trial sand sufferings Job experienced is what brought him to the place of true humility, in recognizing his self-righteousness before God and man. We can be thankful for those hard times for it is what brought us eventually to the place of bended knees and a confessing tongue of the Lordship of Jesus Christ. My heart has been touched and rejoices in the work God has done in and is doing through you

My precious Sister Shirley. The Lord is so good and his heart is full of love and compassion. god is a God who responds to human needs. like me, she saw you in great distress and experiencing an onslaught of pain and desperation. He did not turn his eyes from us, nether did he take us in our sin. He carefully and Lovingly appointed a time and revealed himself to us in Love and power.

There is no God like our God!. He not only washed away our sins, but our past. He said he would cast all our sins into the sea of forgetfulness. Shirley, You and I are new creations. old things have past away and all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17.

He also paid the price for our healing at the beating post. not only diseases, but healing of our hurting hearts. Shirley, we are so blessed. I am glad my testimony has blessed you. If God can do it for us, he can do it for anyone who will just call on Jesus name, believe and read and learn from his words.

Sister Shirley. God has given you an awesome Testemony. You must write it out adn share it will many here on RB and around the world.

I love him so much. when God called me and commissioned in to go to the extreme poor and sick in remote villages in Africa in 1994, I have witnessed his awesome Power, Love and provisions. Please pray for me and teh small mission team here in England and in Africa. Thank you again and I am always here for you, should you ever need someone to talk to or pray with. Your Brother in the lord. Trevor.

Congrats on your feature in “First Things”. A very powerful testimony, Trevor. Whether your life is being controlled by gambling, drunkedness & withcraft like yours once was, or whether it’s someone who was morally right, never drank, smoked, cursed or caroused & who didn’t see a need, such as myself, there was still that Jesus-shaped void in our hearts that only He could fill. I am truly thankful I was spared of immorality, but that doesn’t make me any better as I was still lost in sin. Being lost just means a separation from God. So until we come to that saving knowledge of Jesus Christ & call on His name asking Him to be both our Savior & Lord, then it doesn’t matter what our lifestyle is. Just as sin is sin, lost is lost.

Amen Sister Marsha! True and powerful words of truth. Jesus Loves us so much. Anyone, no matter what they have done, or whatever mess they are in, can be saved and filled with his Love and peace. Salvation is for all mankind. God is Love and wants all to be saved and in a wonderful relationship with him . Oh how sweet the name of Jesus! hallelujah!
