A Boy And His Dog
“Charlie, get in here.” I shouted.
“Yes, Robert.” he said.
“I’m your dad. Call me dad, not Robert.” Charlie opened the screen door and walked in the house. We exchanged glances and he said, “Daddy I’m hungry.”
“Ok , let me get some sandwiches.”
“Dad, I finished my story. It’s called ‘A Boy and His Dog.’” I opened the refrigerator and saw the sandwiches freshly made thanks to Chris™. I took the two out and set them down on our table and said, “Good job, but I still won’t get you that dog.”
“Please, I really want one!” he whined. “And you said you would tell me how babies are made.”
“Here let me explain…in your story, how was the dog made?”
“I don’t know.”
“Well son, I got you from the adopt babies or children (ABC).”
“Ohh, hey dad about the dog…”
“No!”
“But I found a website that says they could let us get one for free” he looked anxious.
“It is probably one of those camps on earth. You know son, one of the ones that started after the nuclear war ended.”
“But dad”
“Those are the same camps that kidnap kids aren’t they?” I was trying to be stern and wanted Charlie to realize that it was dangerous. I didn’t think it was working.
“Fine” he groaned as he finished his sandwich. My sandwich still tasted like metallic Charlie excused himself from the table, and I got at a text on my phone “Hey, I need you to go to the space station between here and earth there is this deal and I need my accountant here, which is you. Also, I think Chris™ is unveiling a new space ship here!” I always have a hard time reading his texts because the only punctuation he uses is commas and very little at that.
The space station was supposed to be a very neat place, and thanks to Chris,™ we could get there in no less than four days. He calls it “super hyper speed.“
“If I have that meeting, then I better find a care service for Charlie.” I thought, as I walked towards Charlie’s room to tell him I had an idea. I could find a camp online and send him there while I’m at the station. And I may meet a girl, or an android made by Chris™ that would make life so much easier. Especially for Charlie, I could see how hard it was for him he wanted someone else. Probably because of how often I was gone, I had to go, ever since josh died. I miss him. He raised me, and one day his old ticker just gave out. He was a deception scientist and I am too, yet raising Charlie has made me he my second job.
As I sat there on the computer looking for the cheapest camp on the station, my thoughts where strangling me as if a snake was constricting around my concentration. I knew that john (my boss) would get me a flight, so I texted him “Hey it is Robert Graham, do you have a flight for me? And if you do what time” I waited some time and tried to regain control of my thoughts. My phone started to beep so I look at it is a call from john I pick up the phone, and john says “hey look, I’m not your dad, your mom, or a god parent” he shouted “just get here.” And then I hear a “click” and a “busy tone” I deiced to do a camp that offers “best quality, lowest price” (BQULP). As I start to look at flights, I realize that I have to stay here for a day. My mind trails off again and I remembered how Dad and I would talk about how he met Chris ™ before the war. think about how me and dad would go and test Chris’s™ new refrigerators the ones that made the food as you told it how. I then realized that I needed to pay attention to my computer. So I looked for two different shuttles one for the boy and one for me. I found two, one that would take him first, then take me. They both were around the same price ~five hundred each, and something told me that john was not going to cover the expenses this time. And he didn’t the time before, now that I think about it. I got ready for going to bed when I realized that I would be sending Charlie alone in to space
