Great Cormorant (juvenile) Phalacrocorax carbo basking in the afternoon sun…
Cormorants feed exclusively on fish, which are caught by means of dives from the surface of the water. The cormorants feathers allow the water to penetrate them, which enables the birds to swim well under water.

Fantastic capture. I’ve seem these birds here on occasion and they are very hard to shoot, they dive under the water and get away as fast as they can.

  • Hi Vivian, you are too kind. I can’t thank you enough for your wonderful support :)
I find with these birds that if you can get them on a day when its quite, and you have time to just sit with them for a while then you can gradually get closer and closer to them. But then again, if they are not in the mood they can disappear as soon as you look at them :)
