vir vanus in superbiam erigitur et tamquam pullum onagri se liberum natum putat

A vain man is lifted up into pride, and thinketh himself born free like a wild ass’s colt.
Book of Job, 11:12
Latin Vulgate Bible

This is a series I did a few months back for a Gallery Burlesque group show. Each illustration uses a mixture of vintage advertising, Victorian etchings, scrap fabric and other images from my horde. Each also has an extract from the bible in Latin, with the reference numbers (but not which book). I was bought up Catholic, and whilst I no longer practice, I am still fascinated by religious iconography and ritual.
