Convento e Igreja das Carmelitas is Portuguese for “Carmelitas’s Convent and Church”. Built in the XVII century in the city of Aveiro, this is a building with a funny story. D.Brites, a local noble woman wanted to acquire the necessary license to build up this beauty but the king D.João IV never gave her any license because some members of her family were involved on a conspiracy to murder the him. Therefore, it was only after both of them died that her family got the necessary permissions to build up the church and convent.
The works began in 1658 and in the year of the Lord of 1704 the building finally got ready. Nowadays the building works as a museum and a financial court. There is much more to be told about this building, but I can’t invade this space with text…
