Aveiro is a wonderful city filled with canals and these typical boats called Moliceiro. Located by the central coast of Portugal this city used to have no canals and a castle. About 500 years ago the “Ria” (a lagoon where many rivers end their journey that is also connected to the sea and has some characteristics of both river and sea) change shape due to a major storm and as a consequence started to flood the city. The king immediately ordered the castle demolition in order to use that stone to build a damn and canals so that the water level could be controled and the city could be saved.
Aveiro has a lot more to be told…
