Artist's Description

This chapel is probably the best example of Baroque architecture in the whole city of Viana do Castelo. Unfortunately I couldn’t find much info about it, but because it was built by order of Dom António Malheiros Reimão (a portuguese bishop of the city of Rio de Janeiro, before Brasil got independent) we can date it from some when between 1694 and 1773.

The forefront was projected by an Italian architect called Nicolau Nasoni in an unknow year who spent most of his life in Portugal back in the days when Portugal was the richest and most powerful country in the world.

The name “Malheiras” comes from the family that used to own it. Here you can see another shot of the building.
