I captured this bird of prey scouring a paddock adjacent to a built up area not far from home for something nice to eat in the afternoon setting sun. Melton, Victoria, Australia. I initially thought it might be a juvenile eagle but I think it may be some sort of kite. It appears to be somewhat larger than the black shouldered kites who also reside in the area. Captured with a Canon 7D and 70 to 300mm L lens at 1250th sec. If anyone knows exactly what it is, I would be delighted to know. It’s searching for food appeared to be quite different from the kites, who hover at height before descending on thier prey. This bird was circling low over the crop at fairly slow speed.
