Fallstreak
I was picking up my daughter from school, when we saw this strange looking cloud that looked like a mini tornado in the sky…so we rushed down to the beach to get a better look and I took some pics. The hole kept getting larger and by the time I got back to work it was huge and there was a rainbow in the middle. I looked it up at work and found it was a Fallstreak. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallstreak_holes
Pretty rare to see something like this along the Gulf Coast, so I was lucky to have been at lunch at just the right time!

I went to look up more with your link but didn’t get wikipedia, something called Project Atmosphere Australia Online popped up, and they ask for anyone with similar shots of fallstreak holes to send in their photographs, that it’s an extremely unusual event to witness. http://www.schools.ash.org.au/paa. I think your photograph is better than anything they’ve got there, but it’s an interesting page with fallstreak holes from all over the globe.
