For the last 3 weeks I’ve been travelling to Geraldton, WA from Perth, around 41/2 hours North along the newly finished Indian Ocean Drive, A superb coastal trek cutting through several nature reserves and national parks offering some extremely unspoilt, natural scenery. One of these sights are the moving sands…Vast oceans of pure white sand slowly moving inland fuelled by the constant strong sea breezes, there are several ‘Oceans’ along the route. The most amazing sight is the winds blowing the sand off of the crests of the dunes….Clouds of sand enveloping the land…..This capture taken from probably the most accessible of them running close to the road around 20 k’s North of Wedge Island on the edge of the Namburg National Park, which by the way also contains the Pinnacles Desert, yet as it is.. effectively, “In the Middle of Nowhere !”, there was not a single footprint left in the sand, with passers by tending to pull over, take a snap and move on the long journey….

In the words of “Peter Lik”….What am going to do sit in the carpark and shoot it with the long lens… F*^# that….I’ve gotta get the shot !!!!

A few hundred metres walk later…and you’re in a different world….

Once again… I wish I’d had a few more hours spare to stay for sunset !!… It turned out to be amazing with an inland storm and some of the most amazing coloured sky’s I’ve seen in a long time….that would have been incredible to capture over these dunes !!… Next time !!!!!!!!

Appreciating and capturing light is the cornerstone to my photography. combine this with the beauty of our Western Australian beaches and rocky coastline and you have something that should be both witnessed, captured and shared.

I hope I can inspire you to take the time to see a sunrise or sunset, on a coast or a rocky outcrop somewhere, and then maybe you can understand why for me, Photography has become a passion……

Wow, Jonathan, I could have sworn this was going to be snow (but then maybe that’s because I’m surrounded by it and was just skiing backcountry where the wind had sculpted the surface like the sand above). Elegant, and your writeup makes me what to go there, be there, in that different world! AMR

  • Funny you should say that…It is pure white sand so as you approach on a bright day it really does look like a snow storm… in Australia !!!!.. Thanks for the great comment..J
