Had a fantastic weekend in the South West of WA, a real test of my photography skills…you see, I’ve realised something..!!!.I don’t take day shots !!!…in fact other than to check settings, clean or get my gear ready for a hopeful sunset..my camera does not generally come out in daylight so with only a limited time to spend in the South West and just an endless array of stunning spots to shoot….I was up for a real challenge.

We had mostly rain the first day with the light doing all sorts of strange things….the scenery is amazing with such a varied coastline from stunning beaches and rocky outcrops to monolithic rock formations….all just begging for the right light…but quite literally…it just didn’t happen the way I had planned…but lets face it…life doesn’t does it !…

So….. time to learn a few NEW techniques and how to cope with thick cloud, rain and strong but very occasional sunlight…couple with bringing the camera out in daylight !!!!!…a recipe for some fun.

This shot was one of those “Oh So Lucky” moments. It was approaching late afternoon and I was trying to find a suitable spot to set up for the “hopeful” sunset which didn’t happen by the way…we had showers all afternoon and the strong contrast between the heavy cloud, showers and glimpses of sunlight made for some wonderful photo ops…

Taken at the Blackwood River Mouth, Augusta, Western Australia.

Appreciating and capturing light is the cornerstone to my photography. combine this with the beauty of our Western Australian beaches and rocky coastline and you have something that should be both witnessed, captured and shared.

I hope I can inspire you to take the time to see a sunrise or sunset, on a coast or a rocky outcrop somewhere, and then maybe you can understand why for me, Photography has become a passion……
