Jasmin RIP
Work in progress. Acrylic, ink pastel and oil on box canvas.
Another phase of my daughter’s evolution. I have tried to make her look younger, and will concentrate more on her eyes next.
I am at the beginning of a long journey. A journey of forgiveness and understanding. A sojourn which I must undertake to be able to love and live again.
Jasmin Cai Neville 1989-1997 rest in peace my beautiful angel.
Jasmine Neville and Charlea Fox, drowned in the River Wharfe at a beauty spot near Arthington, West Yorkshire UK in 1997
I will continue to change her face throughout my life.
The canvas stays the same the memories images and emotions forever alter.
This represents my journey, her ever changing face reflected through many different memories and painful emotions. Just trying to keep her memory alive.
The hope is one day to finish her portrait to help me finaly accept a kind of peace within myself.
More images of this work in progress are contained in my port folio on the profile page.

Yes she drowned when she was 8 along with a friend of hers called Charlea. Charlea was celebrating her 8th birthday….......the adults celebrated too, so much that they neglected the children in a river. One woman called Wendy Dodd was charged with man slaughter , but 3 years later she was let off, and given a 2 years suspended sentence.
I didn’t go to the party.

Words can’t help, but my condolances anyway. I have two daughters of my own.

I have a story I’d like you to read Joanne, would you like me to send it to you to read in private before I publish it? Just in case you’d rather I didn’t publish it? Although to be fair, it is my story, not yours, but you know, sometimes dots connect… It’s a really twisted, tragic story, all true, definitely no fairytale with a fairytale ending, but it shows the flow of bitter-sweet tide and time… It might be something that’ll either make or break you… sometimes you get so desensitised to the pain nothing penetrates any more, you know? Anyhow, Let me know what you think, okay?

I really love where Jasmin is evolving. She is looking even happier. Perhaps she is sending you energy to help develop her image.

this is so touching.
i love the way her eyes are looking up as if she is looking up at you.
so many beautiful layers here, she looks truly happy.
i love all the vertical lines, i feel they sort of represent all the tears that have been shed over her loss.
a beautiful name jasmin, may she rest in peace.
all my love to you.

chere Joanne,
what a brave, beautiful, and lovable woman you are…
Your painting of Jasmin is so , well no words here really, ..emotional.. maybe , would describe how I feel looking at her.[or the tears running down my cheeks….]
One thing I learned about death is that we keep love alive by staying alive ourselves and honoring how we feel. I have a lot to learn from you, I ‘m not even close to be able to paint my feelings about such deep sorrow.
with much love to you,
Margot

This is a very touching and poignant photograph. I just paired an image with a narrative titled Lifetimes dealing with some wonderful books that explain death to children in a creative and soothing way. If you have any more children or extended family these books are very helpful. I also included Elizabeth Kubler Ross’ classic for adults on Death and Dying, an eloquent description of the stages of the grief cycle. I am so sorry for your loss. The image often gets cut off so the piece Lifetimes is also in the writing section. Art is very healing and I believe doing this series is an important way to process the profound loss of your daughter as the process of mourning her loss changes the the evolution of grief. You are a very courageous woman and I admire your
working out the pain through the active process of your touching artwork and writing.

This was such a gripping and emotional piece to take in , it made me shiver, I admire it very much,
I feel the childs soul reaching out and sending a message ,that you shudn t worry, she is well ,where she is, I am very sorry for your loss, the loss of a small child must hurt enormously.
