From the public installation Eos which greets visitors entering Columbus, Indiana, and is a beautiful example of the amazing sculptures created by Dessa Kirk. A Chicago sculptor known for making large-scale lilies and depictions of women from Greek mythology. Eos was created from steel & fiberglass in 2006, and was a gift to the city from the citizens.
One of the overlying themes in Kirk’s work is finding the hidden beauty in ugliness, often making her pieces from scraps of discarded Cadillac cars. Her sculptures are huge & rugged looking, ranging from raw to elegant.
