nice image joe I know this place very well I live about 5 mins from here, its difficult to get the dynamic range for this kind of image but you have done a great job did you use any filters.
Regards Rich.

Hey Rich, nice to meet another local (local to Cumbria that is).. Erm.. Dynamic…range…Filters??? I’m ashamed to say that i look, point & shoot and that’s about it I’m afraid! I was up at 4am, it takes 25 min to get there for me. its just as it was, you will know it changes every few minutes…stunning. It was a gorgeous morning. Thanks for your comment.

basically the filter reduces the bright sky so that you get better overall exposure, in this image the sky is slightly over exposed while the foreground is under exposed this isn’t a criticism you have no choice even the most expensive digital SLR would have the same problem. Its balance that you have got about right. There are ways round this but you will need to use a tripod and take at least 2 images one exposed for the sky and one for the forground you can then combine them in PS or use something like Photomatix which will bring out the full dynamic range of the scene my image you commented on was made up of five images combined in Photomatix.
Hey if you can be bothered to get up at 4am for photo session you’ll want to get the most out of the images, I went up Lonscale fell this morning for Sunrise unfortunately the sunrise was not very good it’s the fell on the left in this image.

Wow, thanks Rich…I know so little about photography …I’m ashamed of myself!!! Sooo many things to learn and so little time. I keep promising to do a course and learn the technical stuff, but a) I’ve got plenty on my plate at the mo & b) i get a photo i like and i say maybe next year! I’m not lazy just too busy!!

Jo… lovely shot. With Blencathra in the background, Castlerigg always seems to have such a timeless atmosphere and you’ve captured it perfectly.
