Nature Area Aekingerzand part of the National Park Drents Friese Wold
One of the largest areas of natural beauty in the Netherlands is National Park Drents-Friese Wold. Over 6000 hectares of forest, heath land, shifting sands and river valley grasslands were designated to become a national park in the year 2000.
There are several dozens of animals in the Drents-Friese Wold, used to graze the natural terrain. The Drenthe heath sheep for instance, eats branches from the common heather plant and keeps them short.
