Selling at Conventions? by JoJoCSZ

So I have a couple questions:

  1. How many of you have already sold your work at conventions?
  2. How many of you are considering selling your work at conventions?

I have been pondering the idea of selling work at anime/comic conventions since my undergrad years when I used to draw a lot more fan art. Since I still enjoy attending these conventions anyway, I’m starting to wonder, why not sell at them too.

I’ve never taken the time to put together a cohesive body of work to potentially gain profit from. But the atmosphere at these conventions is often casual and fun, so I feel I can worry less about being the next big thing in art, and instead just draw anime, comic, videogame-themed stuff and sell to people who are fellow fans looking for some fun souvenirs. I’d aim to sell a mix of fan art and original stuff.

If I’m seriously going to consider this I probably need to spend the next year or so preparing merchandise. I also have to take care of logistics like all the forms that need to be filled to even be able to sell at these events.

There are 2 local cons in particular that I had in mind since I have been going to them for the past three or so years now. Hmmm… I need to think about it. I don’t even know if I stand a chance at selling anything, but you’ll never know unless you try right?

Cheers
