Dudley Canal Trust run boat trips into the limestone tunnels and caverns formed from the 18th century onward. This is one of the old working boats moored in a brick built side tunnel.

Most of the tunnels were hand hewn bare limestone, using bricks to form tunnels was expensive and to be avoided wherever possible.

The weathering, calcite and ageing has produced a fantastic texture.

Blessed with the body of an athlete and the sensitivity of an artist, John was destined for wonderful things…sadly the athlete’s body is that of a retired shot putter and the artist was a cave painter, who met a tragic death when his attempt to knock through a wall of his cave was met with not only failure, but also gravity. Still, his family was left with a wonderful lofty view of the sea.

Sometimes, John takes photographs and some of them appear here.
