I wanted to get the feel of the place and the original photo seemed a bit clean and crisp, so I decided to try to get a water colour sketch effect; nothing too detailed or heavy, but rather what might be painted quickly while viewing the scene.

Photoshop’s filters alone were blunt instruments and their effects rather too well known. I used various effects and numerous layers to mimic the sketch, washes and outlines. Although better can be done, I’m quite pleased with the image now as it is close to what I imagined.

Blessed with the body of an athlete and the sensitivity of an artist, John was destined for wonderful things…sadly the athlete’s body is that of a retired shot putter and the artist was a cave painter, who met a tragic death when his attempt to knock through a wall of his cave was met with not only failure, but also gravity. Still, his family was left with a wonderful lofty view of the sea.

Sometimes, John takes photographs and some of them appear here.
