Enormous flowstone formation, Pha Mon cave, Thailand by

Built up over aeons, one thin layer of calcite crystals each year, this extraordinary mound of flowstone is hidden deep inside a side cavern in this cave in Pang Mapha district of Mae Hong Son province in the far NW corner of Thailand. This rarely visited chamber also shelters a unique collection of blue stalactites, the only examples known in Asia.

Another brilliant shot of a terrific subject (or subjects – sorry Dave); magnificent, John.

  • Thanks Sheila, it is one of my favourite cave chambers

    Most impressive work John !
Tiny Dave really puts the enormity of the flowstone into perspective !

  • Thanks Trish. Big caverns need some scale so we can relate to their size and humans are perfect for that. He isn’t really so tiny.
