Artist's Description

Shan people in northwest Thailand have some very colourful names for wild foods. In Shan, the edible parts of this plant that sprouts in tight bunches from the ground is called ‘mak dap pue’. ‘Pue’ is a malicious spirit that can possess people and turn them crazy. The cure is to place a blackened pot over the victim’s head and scape the soot off. The plant can be eaten raw with chillie paste, and it tastes delicious.
