A Pwo Karen girl collects water from a spring with long tubes of bamboo. Bamboo and bottle gourds are the best natural containers for carrying water and have been used since prehistoric times. People in colder climates had to use less appealing vessels such as the skins of dead animals. This girl lives in a village in Mae Hong Son province, Thailand. Plastic containers are becoming increasingly common in hilltribe villages.

I am an Australian expat living in the hills of Mae Hong Son province Thailand (please visit cavelodge.com). I photograph almost everything, above and below ground.

never seen this, I was too late, but I can understand it, just from what I saw them use bamboo for while I was trekking in this area.
