First born, a mother's love by

This picture was taken in 1979 in a remote Black Lahu village on the Thai-Burmese border. The mother, Amy-Sor, is obviously proud of her healthy first daughter, Na Fa. I was living with her extended family at the time in her village, Ban Huoy Hea, which was 6 hours walk from the nearest road. I took the picture with a Nikon FM2, Nikkor 50mm 1.4 lense, using Kodachrome slide film. Natural light. It is one of my favourite shots.

I am an Australian expat living in the hills of Mae Hong Son province Thailand (please visit cavelodge.com). I photograph almost everything, above and below ground.

    beautiful

  • Thanks annarmora, she is a beautiful person and her warmth is captured in her serene expression. This shot was a favourite of my mother, who visited me in Thailand many times before she passed away.

John another masterpiece. So you dont handle only landscapes. Also portraits and human / social photography at master level.
Romantic and Poetry with photographical techniques. I think I get your aim…
This is souch a touching picture.
I love mothers and their children.
    This is so special.
    Wonderful.
Ok I will have to study your portfolio more profoundly.

  • Wow, what a nice comment. This is one of my favourites, and the mother’s expression transcends cultural boundaries.

Beautiful capture! The baby IS adorable!! Such beautiful eyes. Love it!

  • Isn’t she cute, I also love her little black hand sewn top with the silver button, and the blessing threads that elders have tied around her wrists.
