Spikey

Spikey

This colourful creature was devouring rose leaves in my garden in northwest Thailand. I was fascinated by the way its spikes went through balls of water. I love meniscus.

Spikey belongs to the following groups:

Wow! That is one wild looking insect John! It is interesting how the spikes are through the bubbles of water and they stay whole. Congralulations on your Feature!

  • John Spies replied

Thanks Ginny, the spiked water is a plus for this shot. I imagine the spikes are there to make it less attractive for birds.

In trying to identify The Blob I came across this caterpillar called a Limacodidae HERE at Thai Bugs website, there is a few shots of him.

  • John Spies replied

Thanks Vanessa, I checked the site and the caterpillar is definitely a Limacodidae, and I imagine the blob is the stage before it emerges with spikes, but still no blob pics to confirm.
