THE POET (poem)

THE POET‘A poem’, she said please – (thought tonight would be easy!) . . .By writing a poem the thoughts become queasyThey play with our problems the thoughts that are dailyThey laugh at the writer, they frolic so gailyA distance exists from the smile to the frownI find myself caught in betweenLooking at hope and the need for renownA poet sees it’s only a dreamSo see me here grow with my poet’s new taskI look to my Soul, och, it’s watching at last!It tells me, ‘see life in a particular wayThe truth of our words – ‘aye, they say what they say!’The way we use words it is only a measureBut really we seek relianceWe play and we fight and we yearn for some pleasureAnd try to avoid the silenceA true poet’s life is not what is thoughtWe can feel we are nothing – we seek what’s not soughtWe think about life and the purpose of reasonWe see they are there then we contemplate seasonsSo this is the time to think and reflectOf life and the poet’s roleSometimes our words are very directAnd worthy of every SoulJohn Lakefield
