The desert is a very cool place, no pun intended; the life there is so adapted and specialized. Unfortunately, for plant species surviving in that marginal environment, specialization means developing thorns instead of leaves, scales instead of skin. Often this outward presentation masks the underlying charm of these plants. On this piece I wanted to let the succulent’s softer beauty underneath shine through.

John Robichaud began his artistic journey as a documentary filmmaker creating programming for PBS and Discovery Channel. His fifteen years of experience in the field, observing and exposing nature’s beauty on film, helped to develop and hone a unique “eye” for capturing dramatic composition and light. Today he brings his deep appreciation and love of the natural world to his collection of art prints.
