Kookaburra on the lookout for his lunch.
Known to our family as “Charlie” he has lived in our large country garden for 10 years or so. Charlie is almost tame and permits me to photograph him from a couple of metres – so It is easy to get good shots.
Olympus E3 with its Olympus 14-54 mm zoom.

This is a fantastic photo, really sharp with a nice glint in the eye, and a very nicely unbusy blurred back ground.

  • Thanks for your kind comment.

Charlie is one of my favourite Kookas. He, and his siblings, has lived on our 10 acres for some 5+ years and is surprisingly tame.
Photo taken with Olympus E1 and 50-200 mmm tele. (100 to 400 equiv) from about 3 metres. So it was pretty easy to get a good image-but the sharpness was enhanced by using Genuine Fractals to interpolate my 5 Mp file up to about 15 Mp from memory.

  • Hello Teresa. Thanks very much. I just love our big Australian birds. They are relatively easy to photograph and come into range without drama..

A terrific kooka shot John. Congrats on the feature.

  • Hello Al. Thanks for your kind comment. We lived in the your area for 7 years during the construction of the new Parliament House, (Kingston and Burra) and just loved the birds. Unfortunately, before the digital photography era.

    Hi Kerryn Thanks.
Love your excellent bird shots. I am OK with big birds (Kookas, pelicans, parrots, magpies etc.) but not much good on the smaller and more athletic varieties.
