I’ve been to St. Mark’s Square twice. I drew this based on a sunny day photo I took on my first visit. I painted it referring to several photographs I found online, one in particular that showed the square flooded in winter. However, I imagined an early morning sky, and colors that weren’t nearly so wintery as those in that photo. The figures, more than the colors, express the loneliness of winter. The original image is 16 inches wide and 20 inches tall.
