I have yet to visit during truly dramatic lighting, but I was happy with the detail and tones I was able to pull out of the raw file using a curve shaped like the AZO paper response.
You know I have to vist the GC some time its just so awesome, its great image John, do you think its possible to take original images of it or has it all been done, I suppose the first problem is composing an image its just so big!!!, whats the access like along the rim can you get to most places.
There are quite a few places accessible along the rim, both close to parking lots and plenty of trails. I’m sure most of the canyon has been photographed (I’ve only seen a small part myself), but I’d just like to get some good images in really nice light.
Yes I think thats the key, I assume the weather is fairly stable so you should be able to predict the where the best spots to catch the low light will be. I think with a project like this you would need to invest some time A to find your composition B find the right time of day/year to take image and even then you may have to camp out for week or 2, it would be great to be a pro and be able to invest that sort of time in getting an image.

John I have only seen one postcard that was beautiful!! It was one from years ago and in my folks stuff. Do not believe I still have it, wish I did.

Nicely done. One could shoot in this awe inspiring piece of earth from before sunrise until after sunset capturing the ever changing colours.
Thank you. Yes I think someone could spend a lifetime there and not cover it all.
