These birds range from the desert southwest of the United States down to Chile and Argentina. They are very fast and highly maneuverable. Rabbits, even given a substantial headstart, are not likely to escape.

One of the most interesting facts about these birds is they are among the only raptors to hunt in groups. In such a group, they have been known to take down jackrabbits… however jackrabbits have also been known to kill the hawks.
