I’m floored when I see stuff like this.. how did they live this wya???? How did they get up there? ladders?
John Wright replied
Me too Jan. They had fires going in there too, it was a smoky place. Their lungs couldn’t have looked good. They used a pair of ladders which they pulled up after themselves every night. Very safe.
Jan Piller
Are you allowed to climb up there? Presuming you know how to rock climb..? Or is it off limits to people now?
John Wright
I believe it is off limits, at least to the general public. I think a person needs to be part of a special team to get up there.
Leslie Battjes
amazing….always wanted to see these…thanks for sharing.
John Wright replied
Thank you Leslie.

Excellent shot John!! Mesa Verde in Colorado has similar dwellings..just amazing!!
John Wright replied
Thank you Dar. In some ways, Mesa Verde is even more amazing since they were so high up, where this is near the valley floor. I think a fall would still be fatal but it seems less scary.

Nice take on this monument, not an easy place to shoot
John Wright replied
Thanks. Much of the light on the dwellings was indirect when I went, that helped.
Gary L. Suddath
great shot of this ancient place
John Wright replied
Thank you Gary.

Stopped here with the kids in the middle 90s. Shot color film. Tuscon, Tombstone, here, Sedona and the Grand Canyon. Also stopped at the old calvary fort on 17.
John Wright replied
It is a really amazing area.
